Lyahvian Spells for ODnD Hârn
I've been slowly chipping away at the Shek-Pvar spells in some way, shape, and form for my ODnD hack of HârnWorld. Below is essentially the Red Illusionist Wizards of HârnWorld spell list that I've cobble together from the Hârn Magic Book and some third-party fanon material
Note: Details on the Shek-Pvar and the Hârn Hack
Lyahvi (Lee-AH-vee) Lyahvi is the magic of the insubstantial, invisible, ethereal, and illusory. Lyahvi mages manipulate light to illuminate, confuse, or hypnotize. The essence of Lyahvi is bright, sterile, and unliving. Gems, mirrors, and other items that reflect/ refract light are used as foci and elemental objects.
Ablarin’s Field
Level: 1
Range: 180’
Duration: 12 turns
A 15’ radius area is rendered utterly silent.
- Within the area: All sound is prevented. Conversation and spell casting are impossible.
- Noise from outside the area: Can be heard by those within it.
- Casting upon a creature: Silence may be cast upon a creature, which must save versus spells. If the save fails, the 15’ radius area of silence moves with the creature. If the save succeeds, the spell’s effect remains stationary—the targeted creature may move out of it.
Aeric’s Whisper
Level: 1
Range: 180’
Duration: Instant
Allows the caster to speak a message that a remote, single subject can/will hear. The message will sound as if someone were whispering in the subject’s ear.
Communication is one-way. The recipient must be in Range. At higher levels, d4 recipients may be designated.
Beacon of Isala
Level: 1
Range: 120’
Duration: 6 turns + 1 per level
In a 15’ radius. The magical light is sufficient for reading, but is not as bright as daylight. The spell may be cast upon an object, in which case the light moves with the object.
Cloak of Kalaerin
Level: 2
Range: Touch
Duration: 12 Turns
A quasi-invisibility enchantment laid upon a Lyahvi elemental object. The enchantment works by bending light around the object. The tactile sensibility is unaffected. The caster is not immune to the effect and must wait for the enchantment to expire before the item is visible again. The enchantment is useful, for example, if the caster wishes a focus to escape the notice of a search.
Hlandor’s Flash
Level: 2
Range: 120’
Duration: 6 turns + 1 per level
A spell that causes a blinding flash to radiate from a Lyahvi elemental object held by the caster.
- Blinding a creature: By casting the spell upon its eyes. If the target fails a saving throw versus spells, it is blinded for the duration. A blind creature cannot attack.
Hakon’s Sphere of the Heavens
Level: 2
Range: 30’
Duration: 1 day
The caster creates a bubble of air in the immediate vicinity of the caster for duration. The diameter of the bubble is 3x5’. Good for breathing underwater.
- Underwater movement: Is also not enhanced or affected.
Aeric’s Silken Voice
Level: 2
Range: 60’
Duration: 2 Turns
Allows the caster to cause their voice to emanate from anywhere within range (e.g. a statue, a tapestry, an animal).
Lens of Ikara
Level: 2
Range: 120’
Duration: Until touched
Manipulates existing lighting phenomena. Put simply, this spell affects a visual attribute of a single object. It may not be used to create illusions from nothing, and the enchanted object must preserve a fair proportion of its normal size. For example, a puddle may look like a pool, or a pool may look like a small puddle. Shadows might be made deeper, gemstones larger, etc. All effects must be within the caster’s line of sight, and the illusion fades as soon as this is no longer the case. The effects are fixed in space, and the illusion created has no texture or tactile dimension
Globe of Setath
Level: 3
Range: 120’
Duration: 12 rounds
A spell which creates a fascinating, confusing, illusory ball of flickering, multi-colored light. The globe, about one foot in diameter, hovers one foot above the caster’s head. Alternatively, it may be attached to a Lyahvi elemental object. The globe remains stationary in relation to its root object.
3d6 creatures within a 30’ radius area are stricken with delusions and become unable to control their actions.
- Subjects of 2+1 HD or greater: May save versus spells each round to resist the spell’s effect, acting with free will that round if they make the save.
- Subjects of 2 HD or lower: May not make a saving throw.
- Behavior: Roll on the following table separately for each affected subject each round to determine how that subject acts that round:
| 2d6 | Behavior |
|---|---|
| 2-5 | Attack the caster’s group |
| 6-8 | No action |
| 9-12 | Attack the subject’s group |
Prism of Gethan
Level: 3
Range: Caster
Duration: 6 turns
1d4 illusory images may be made visible that exist only in the imagination of the caster.
- Behavior: The mirror images look and behave exactly as the images, although they tend to flicker in and out of existence.
- Attacks on the images: Destroy one of the mirror images (even if the attack misses).
Blinding Light of Castiel
Level: 3
Range: 240’
Duration: 12 turns + 1 per level
A spell that causes a blinding flash to radiate from the caster’s hand.
- Conjuring light: In a 30’ radius. The magical light is sufficient for reading, but is not as bright as daylight. The spell may be cast upon an object, in which case the light moves with the object.
- Blinding a creature: By casting the spell upon its eyes. If the target fails a saving throw versus spells, it is blinded for the duration. A blind creature cannot attack.
Breathless Coriolis
Level: 3
Range: 30’
Duration: 6 rounds
The caster selects a target and creates a spherical area of extreme swirling wind around the target’s head, approximately 18”x18” in diameter. Due to the Coriolis force pulling the air away from the center (the target’s head), the target suddenly cannot breathe or speak.
Target must save versus breath with difficulty, increasing each round to avoid suffocation. The target takes 1d6 damage per round for each round they fail until death.
Tahli’s Concealment
Level: 3
Range: Caster
Duration: Permanent (but may be broken)
The caster bends light around them to become invisible.
- Gear: Any gear a subject is carrying is also rendered invisible. Items subsequently put down become visible. Carried light sources become invisible but the emitted light does not.
- Breaking the invisibility: If a subject attacks or casts a spell, the invisibility is broken for that subject.
Tahli’s Flight
Level: 3
Range: Caster
Duration: 6 turns + 1 per level
This enchantment allows the caster to move up and down through the air:
- Vertical: Vertical movement as desired, at up to 20’ per round.
- Horizontal: The caster can move laterally by pushing against solid objects.
- Weight: A normal amount of weight can be carried while levitating.
Curse of Bryen
Level: 3
Range: Touch
Duration: 6 rounds + 1 per level

Level: 3
Range: Caster/Touch
Duration: 1 Turn

- Known object: A location, within 360’, known to the caster.
- An unknown object: Specified by a series of offsets (e.g. 120’ north, 160’ east, 80’ up) totalling not more than 360’.
Stipulations: The following apply:
- Occupied destination: The spell has no effect if the destination is occupied by a solid object.
Entora’s Mirror
Level: 4
Range: Touch (object / 180’ image)
Duration: 12 turns
A spell that projects a two-dimensional image of an object to a remote location. The image is a “snapshot” of the object and will not normally change unless the object is destroyed, in which case the image vanishes. At higher levels, the distance of the “snapshot” that can be remotely viewed is greater.
Beam of Nolar
Level: 4
Range: 180’
Duration: Instant
