Shifty Louts Session 16: Dachshund Cynocephali and a Diamante du Lucinar Levy
Players
- Monterey od Mecanizio-Manzaza, Rust Clan Barbarian (Chance)
- Brother Lump, Accountant Abbot of the Yellow God (Phocas)
Summary
The Sixteenth of Yellowmonth. The Annual Martial Sung Poothers Yellowmonth Sale.
The group sees the Grace Abounds Manse catch fire as they spurn their struthios and ponies north, retreating to the hidden cliffside hunting lodge. They arrive there by nightfall through the switchback trail up the Red Wine Hills.
There, the now-Redland guerrillas, take in the panoramic views and laughing stars. Smoke rises from the Red Wine River Valley and the manse below.
The small pops of sporadic gunfire can be heard as the two Shifty Louts hide out and pick over their dwindling rations
The Seventeenth of Yellowmonth. The Annual Martial Sung Poothers Yellowmonth Sale
The morning brings humid heat, pink skies, and the buzz of bloated bloodflies that buzz and bother the ponies and struthios as the Shifty Louts decide their next play.
They survey their surroundings, seeing a valley pass on the west and more of the mountain chain. To the east, an artillery shelled skeleton of a mountainside chateau. To their north, two rivers lead to the Everywhen Sea, and no signs of any inhabitants, true wilderness.
The group debates whether to strike out west, hoping to find solace within the Yellowlands, but with little rations, the group decides to head back to the Red Land District and the City Fixe.
The Shifty Louts follow the switchback trail until a rock slide occludes their path, but reveals an ancient bunker. Upon it, various biometric security apparatuses: a key fob, palm and iris scanners, a USB-like input, and a keypad.
However, it's so old that Monterey can unlock it with his army knife, within the darkness, a mural, an image of a virgin rose. In Raudalani, the ancient language of the Red Lands, a motto - “Nothing is Ever Easy”

The bunker splits left and right. The Louts head right to find another door, bearing the image of the rose and images of knights consuming people. The group is sufficiently scared and explores leftward to find the passage has broken over a pit, and on the other side, a pile of skeletons is piled outside a door.
The Louts head back and spend some time prying open the ornate knight door to find a group of seven dachshund cynocephali, who crouch, their hackles raised, waiting for these interlopers' next move. One grabs a boxcutter and growls out if they are of “the RLD”.
Monterey responds yes, and the cynocephali relax, asking how they have found one of their 1,000 doors in here in this place. The group explains that the rock slide revealed the bunker door, and jokes that the place now has 999 doors.
The dachshund cynocephali don’t take the joke and tell them to leave this place before the Sunless Time arrives, for the Knights Sanitare hunt during the dark. They, however, aren’t welcome here given their breaking into the bunker.
The cynocephali escort the group, and they continue to spend the rest of the day slowly descending the Red Wine Hills.

The group eventually camps out for the evening and eat a ration, their foodstuffs dwindling. Monterey dozes off while Brother Lump takes the watch
The Eighteenth of Yellowmonth. The Annual Martial Sung Poothers Yellowmonth Sale.
In the early morning hours of the 18th of YM, Brother Lump sees some sort of horned rabbit creatures bounding upon the sheer mountain face. With rations low, Brother Lump takes his bow and tracks one, as tall as a doe. But the loose rock and unsure footing give away his position, as the creature dashes off.
However, the Yellow God favors Brother Lump this time as a parting bow shot fells the murine. Brother Lump spends the early morning hours field dressing the creature as the sky clears, revealing a lowland fog in the River Valley.
Lump returns to camp with pelts and rations to Monterey, drooling on his cool cat bookbag. Lump prepares an early morning breakfast as stately airjelly swarms dance upon the wind.

The Louts fill their bellies as a phone call comes from their Diamante Co-sponsored cart. Their manager, Poisson Albada, chews them out and levies an additional fee of 14,400d for the total value of 72 on-loan Orangelanders (200d/per) and 100,000d for damages to the “ancestral and historically significant” manse of Grace Abounds.
The Vinter Lords, having complained to Diamante, have security footage showing two entering illegally and with a falsified bill of lading. They are lucky that there isn’t a Parliament K-Squad or Diamante Problem Solvers en route.
The group feigns connection problems and now fears not only for their financial burden, but also their involvement with a Revolution in another country; they destroy their Diamante Co-sponsored cart, believing it to be geo-tracked.
Brother Lump declares them to now be “True Contractors”, who can freely decide who to work for. They debate their options, whether to throw in with RLD Revolutionaries, given their involvement in the Bloody Popular Uprising of Sun (rising) of Camelia III, or the DWARFs, who seem organized and competent.
Either option requires them to return to the City Fixe, so they pack up their single cart and make the trek along the mountain trail back to Fixe, as the across the Redlands, the sky turns cyan, spores bloom, and a wind blows rust dust.
The Nineteenth of Yellowmonth. The Annual Martial Sung Poothers Yellowmonth Sale.
In the early morning hours of the 19th YM, the Louts see the Red Wall and into the City Fixe, exhausted. They are met with propaganda posters and news bulletins of the heroic exploits of the martyrs, Benito Rojo and the Lout’s hireling, Frutilla Paon, who died in the attack on the Grace Abounds Manse, liberating another Manse from the clutches of the vampiric Vinter Lords!
