The 25th of Kelen. Somewhere underneath the village of Eldin and the Capital of the Thardic Republic, Coranan.
In the morning, the group of dead-flesh easters is gone, and the chest of Dwarf gold is still present. The group awakes and decides to head north to retrieve Nicophorus and any items on their person. The group meets another lost Zealot, Claymore Stroob, who joins them. Safety in numbers!

The group presses northward into this interior chamber that soon seems to be a fallen chimney chute. Akos leads the way and finds that it spills out into a smaller room with two metal doors and checks for signs of frost. Seeing that the door is slick and wet, but not icy, the group pushes forth to find the frost-covered body of Nicophorus. Posy retrieves his falchard while Claymore rummages through his pockets find a spare 5d and 18f. Akos watches southward to ensure overwatch.
However, Akos soon feels the air cool behind his back, and frost and ice spread from behind him. The group turns around to see the malevolent ghostly image of Nicophorus spreading its icy chill. The group runs southward as the entrance and tunnel begin to freeze over, and giant icicles burst from the ground. Posy attempts to cast "Liquefy Ghostâ to no avail. Luckily, the group can abscond in the way, as the ghost of Nicophrous does not seem to follow.
The group proceeds southward following a descending tunnel they found a day prior, and it terminates in another wooden door of banded iron. To the east, another crude passage. Claymore kicks the door down with ease and finds a disgusting sewer pit of shit and piss that runs westward. The smell is awful and rank. They debate to avoid dirtying themselves in the âshit pitâ and head eastward through the tunnel passage, which terminates at another burial tomb that bears similar heraldry to another tomb they found

Posy can push open the stone door, and the group finds two stone sarcophagi. While the thought of more grave goods, Posy and Claymore each take a sarcophagus and attempt to push away the heavy lids. The strong Posy does with ease, while Claymore struggles. However, Posy is surprised as a necrotic hand grabs her by the throat and digs its filthy fingers into her throught a vines of necrosis begin to spread. The lid that Claymore attempted to push off soon opens with another of these shrouded dead figures.
Akos rushes headlong and attempts to burn the figure that attacks Posy, only to find his arm is grabbed, and similar necrosis begins to spread. Posy manages to break free. Claymore throws his dagger point-blank into the head of the figure that has grabbed Akos, burying it deep into its head with no avail.
Posy casts âSolidify Fleshâ to slow these creatures down. Claymore is dragged to the ground and struggles to free himself. Akos lops off the arm of the one holding him with his hatchet, and cleaves off the otherâs dead arm that was holding Claymore. However, the efforts are in vain, as Claymore is down while Akos and Posyâs newfound falchard dig into the shoulder of the other, spilling dust and squirming maggots everywhere.
As Claymore struggles to rise to his feet, the shrouded figure holding him buries his fist deep into the flesh of Claymoreâs back. A lightning crack of pain shoots to Claymoreâs feet and through his spinal column, paralyzing him. Sensing there isnât anything to be done, Akos and Posy scarper away, as Posy slams the stone door shut, witnessing the two figures tear Claymore to pieces as his screams slowly subside.
The battered Posy and Akos regroup, as Akosâs torch sputters. Both look at each other and see their wounds are awful, stinking, and dripping black blood. Akos casts âMendâ and finds his wounds have not healed. Posy attempts more drastic measures, amputating her arm and dying of blood loss in the process.
The body of Posy begins to leak supercharged arcane energies and explodes in a violent display as her Words escape her. Akos is doused in this caustic fluid, burning him, and he nearly ends his own life there. However, the fates decided to keep him to punish him even more. The Word âSadnessâ implants itself into the mind of Akos as he strips himself of his burning clothes and crawls away from the Dwarven Gold and the collapsed tunnel where Posy exploded. Cursing himself.
The explosion of mystical energies attracts another lost Wizard, Dungstan the Eximious, who attends to Akos, who screams of âcursed Dwarven goldâ, to which Dungstan happily goes to check out the chest, which is covered in simmering arcane sludge. Knowing the chest is way too heavy for one person to carry, Dungstan cast âLightâ to make the chest of gold light as a feather. Returning to the burning Akos, Dungstan asks what has happened, but before the two can properly debrief, they are interrupted by three lia-kavair who seize upon the opportunity to attack these two weaklings.
Akos throws his knife, barely scraping one, as Dungstan attempts to defend himself, only to be clubbed in the head and stunned for nearly 10 minutes. Akos, since his end is near, rallies himself and uses Dungstanâs club to attack one, only to miss and be walloping throwing himself back and finding himself in a similar situation as Dungstan as his brain swells from head trauma
When all seems lost, a Barbarian emerges from the sewage pit, grabs Posyâs chipped and fragmented falchard, and skewers one, killing him instantly. The two other lia-kaviar are shocked, but stand their ground. One tries after the Barbarian, but nearly slips. The Barbarian swings his falchard, grazing the bastard, but manages to kill him through sheer strength. The remaining lia-kaviar does not want this fight as dashes of as the shit-covered Barbarian attends to both the stunned Akos and Dungstan.

Notes
- The Arduin Trilogy critical hit and fumble tables by David A. Hargrave add so much dramatic flair to the proceedings; limbs were hacked off, people clubbed and stunned, falling, and spinal paralysis was all on display for a very violent, epic session.
- The character generator I made also proved very useful tonight. I would suggest always attempting to find when having open tables and a relatively high player death and turnout for ease of onboarding
- The Shift Louts Wizard, as a class, once again proves a deadly class, as its usefulness is offset by its destructive capabilities upon death.
- Another player spun up a Barbarian, a class that hasnât seen much action. So I am excited to see if this PC stays around and how much mileage the class gets
- The Dwarven Gold, as a plot element, has resulted in the deaths of nine player characters over the course of the campaign, taking on a Macguffin-esque quality as new players are quickly motivated to take the gold for themselves after player death
- Iâve begun to ponder what would occur to the campaign in the event of a TPK and the circumstances around it that would necessarily âclose the narrative loop,â and what would occur after the fact. Would players simply want to continue, or move elsewhere? Stop entirely? Iâm not sure, but it's something Iâve been mulling over, especially in tonightâs extremely brutal session.
