Shifty Louts Session 39 - Tombs & Transmutation
Players
Kennard Kennarde the Barbarian (Onyx), Akos the Acrobat (Divus Luna), Hindlick the Tulwyn the Zealot (Connor), Agrippa the Wizard (Spuk)
Summary
The mid-day of the 25th of Kelen. Somewhere underneath the village of Eldin and the Capital of the Thardic Republic, Coranan
Kennard stands over the slain Lia-kavair as Akos recovers as best they can. Soon they were rejoined by the Tulwyn Shaman Hindlick, who had found Agrippa the wizard. The arcane explosion of Posy seems to have attracted many a shek-pvar to this midden somehow.
The group proceeds northward, issuing warnings of the frost brought by the Midden Knight. However, all they find is wet earth, mud, and the body of Nicophorus. To the east, another sewage pit full of urine and feces.
The group heads westward, finding two tombs bearing the similar heraldry found earlier, a yellow goat. The caverns and the burial chambers themselves look burned and charred, soot staining the once-expressive mosaic portraits of legionnaires and warriors. Agrippa tests one of the jars, finding a brown powder that burns caustic went the flame of a torch is applied

Agrippa finds another legionnaire buried with three strange jars, funeral money stored for the afterlife to pay the Goddess of Fortune, Helea, and rusted armor. Noises, echoing and washed in reverb, emanate from the deeper western passage.
The group finds another room, after Agrippa transmutes the metal doors to glass via Transmute Glass, more child skeletons, and a small hole dug wide enough for a man to pass through. Akos, being the most slender and flexible, fits himself into the hole as from behind Hindlick, the frost and ice of the Midden Knight returns.
Hindlick avoids the ghostly, glistening sword of the Knight as the group swarms in the hole with their chest of dwarf gold. Agrippa casts Conceal, allowing the group to crawl for nearly a half hour to the same spot where they had slept the night before.
Dejected, the group returns to the spot where they nearly lost their lives and finds the noise where eight Red Guards of Coranan are haggling over looted grave goods. Akos and Hindlick plunge forward, finding an ancient Larani church further westward and a set of stone stairs that lead to a basement within an abandoned building in the city. Kernnard and Agrippa pair to fight these guards and steal their goods.
Agrippa fashions a piece of cloth around the jar of brown caustic powder and throws his torch, which shatters the jar and causes a plume of brown smoke to engulf the room of guards, who begin bleeding from their eyes and nose, coughing up blood, and asphyxiating rather quickly. The group scarpers up to safety, seemingly back in Coranan proper, but where exactly!?

Notes
- Mummy rot is particularly dangerous. Avoid it at all costs!
- The grey ooze was a trap that I had rolled using the Arduin trap matrix. The players avoided it through dumb luck and poor rolls.
- In another flash of “at the table” inspiration, the third-to-last room featured a ghoul tunnel, and I had it connect to the room the ghouls had used previously. These sorts of happy accidents and serendipitous moments of recontextualization are why I love these dragon and elf games.
- The group deployed some creative spells, which always surprises me as the Referee.
- The Barbarian class feature of their superstitions regarding the dead played a nice little flavor
- Unsure if I should have had the Midden Knight follow them into the tunnel, but too late now!
