Plann Yorek
Occupation: Mercenary
Back home from the Western Republican Uprisings for a spell. His time in the Blawland Legion saw him lose his nose to a Republican trench knife. Convalescing back in the City, the charming and oily Plann Yorek spends his time drowning himself in Smoked Anchovy Whisky and contracting Beef Sweats from the prostitute Alpyssinia at the White Crow Inn.
Guinness Boulanger
Occupation: Gunsmith
A gentle giant and polite professional rival of Cork Willingdone, Guinness Boulanger’s rifles are sought more by the upper crust who hunt the tumbling pobbits during the Spring. To this end, his craftsmanship in large pobbit guns is supported by his patron, the Duke Uglymand O’Colonel. Boulanger accepts his shillings greedily, turning away other jobs and clients at the behest of his patron.
Novaro Galway
Occupation: Barge Pilot
A classically trained barber who had to sell his shop to pay the “debt collectors” of the wire-thin Bandylegs Croaker. However, it's still not enough. Now they want him to capture a borough council minister who rides his barge across the River Slough every day. Galway binge-eats to cope, ballooning in weight at Fiskelby’s so much that his brother, Hooghly, a chef, has named the amber pudding Novaro gorges on “The Galway”. The amber pudding has now become mildly popular in the City.
Meddle Lodge
Occupation: Watchman
The well-bred, snobbish Watchman Meddle Lodge finally got the job he long desired after marrying the daughter of the City Watch, Miss Meade Lynn-Duff. However, being a nightwatchman has its upsides, as Meddle has been engaging in a sordid tryst with a cobbler, Morya Dibvy. Both women love him despite his insecurities and sociopathic nature, as both his legs bend like a bird and he squawks in delight at the public hangings in Haymarket Square.
Dodd Tindertarten
Occupation: Prison Guard
The balding prison guard, Dodd Tindertarten, wears an ostentatious wig to conceal this fact. Everyone knows it's a poor wig, however. When he isn’t guarding the drunks or pickpockets, Dodd reads up on minerals, a polemic from the Loving Mercy Givers, and daydreams of unrequited love with the Watchmen Meddle Lodge. A genius in the way of the minerals and now a practicing vegetarian after reading the political tract. On his way home from the gaol one night. Tindertarten saw strange aetheric phenomena. He describes them as interconnected stone bubbles that pulsed red to his co-workers.
Annd Rantipoll
Occupation: Whaler
The non-citizen Annd Rantipoll has recently returned home after another whaling season aboard Elcock’s Heirloom. With money in her pocket, the vapid fashionista Miss Rantipoll aims to buy this season's latest fashions and pay off any outstanding interest from her “investment” in the failed fashion house of Cutter Secondsnipped Clothiers, which left her nearly nothing to show for her years of whaling. The Citizens weren’t ready for the strange fashions of the Country and the accented tongues of the clothiers; cousins she hired to run the store.
Mercius Doctor
Occupation: Pugilist
A part-time enforcer for Bandylegs Croaker, part-time pugilist at Bohnapart’s Den. Mercius has an upcoming fight with Puppette Kish. The odds aren’t in his favor. Neither professionally, nor personally after the Lamplighter Brofkost accidentally burned down the row-home that contained his apartment. The whole affair has left Mercius dour and pessimistic.
Trevi Comport (né Jean Souslevin)
Occupation: “Engine Cleaner”
Trevi Comport né Jean Souslevin is an intensely creepy man. Simply because of a condition that makes it impossible for him to blink. His eyes are red and wide, which offputs most. Because of this fact, the Crown has found use for the man, assigning him to spy on various internal threats. This fact is hidden from his wife, Darthoola, a housemaid for the middle classes of the City. The Minister of War has assigned him to the Glasthule Engineering Plant as an engine cleaner. Trevi is hardly trained for such hard labor. He has been tasked to watch over the Loving Mercy Givers, an animal rights organization that is feared to become revolutionary. He is trying to befriend Maryleen Danmark, but has been unsuccessful. During one of his long night stakeouts, Trevi witnessed what his official report says were “strange beasts from a void lit by bright blue stars emerge from a rift in reality, smelling of salt and chalk, looking like a rainbow squashed cabbage, sounding like an orchestra tuning, and moving like breaking glass!” The Minister of War is worried for Souslevin’s mental state.
Maryleen Danmark
Occupation: Coal Miner
Maryleen's small, childlike frame helps her greatly in navigating the small tunnels of the zinc mines in Demidoff’s Mining District. Recently, her friend Bianconi Copeman took her to an animal rights meeting organized by the Loving Mercy Givers, who seek implementation of laws for the better treatment of dogs, horses, and other beasts. The meeting greatly affected her, and she is now a regular, dues-paying member. The other members call her Squirrel. She is being watched by the spy Jean Souslevin, who Maryleen knows as the “creepo Trevi”
