Tiny Fables Session 3: The Fae Knights Joust & More Roasted Mushrooms!
Players
Cherry Summerholme (Greenie), Bill Pipp (ChaosKnight), Crocus Grant (DD), Cornelius Dunhall (hireling)
Summary
The Month of Star. The Third Fair of the Fifth Week.
In the sleet, Cherry, Crocus, and Bill run westward in the direction of the clanging sounds of metal, only to find their drunken hireling, Cornelius, already sloshed off of dandelion wine amongst a small crowd of fairy aristocrats, watching, cheering vigorously while stuffing their faces with candied nuts and dandelion wine.
They are cheering for two knights, who are holding a joust. Both clad in baroque glass armor. One, androgynous with icy blue eyes. Lustrous, waist-length hair, who smells of fresh spring dew, whispering speech.
The other knight with shadowy locks, wide-eyed & childlike, a wound leaks golden blood. Their war cry oscillates between male and female timbres.
The knights collide in this tilt, both breaking their lances, but neither being unmounted. Cornelius is fawned over by the group of fae, one in particular with wair as white as snow, a gown made of frost, and violet eyes.
Cherry and Crocus interrupted the proceedings, and the fae aristocrats swarmed them, inquiring about them and their âfriendâ. It's so rare to see small mammals now.
After some back and forth, it's learned that Sir Towednack Bockstump âToo-Soon-Begottenâ and Sir Louse Sasserpipe âBegets-Only-Dreamsâ are competing for the hand of the frost-gowned lady, Clementine Twiggler, âSunbeamsâ Last Breathâ.
Both wished to receive a single crow feather taken from the cloak of the Queen of Blackbirds and accompany her to the next Winter Cotillion at the Fae Court.
They learn that Lady Twiggler is the most eligible bachelorette in the Kingdom, much to the chagrin of Cherry, who sees her as a schemer, while Crocus is also smitten by her debonair charm!
After another tilt and broken lances, the mice are finally pulled away from the drunken Fae aristocrats, although Cornelius has seemingly fallen head over tail for the Lady Twiggler.
He holds an invitation to the next Winter Cotillion (its theme, Chalice-at-Dusk violet) and a bottle of dandelion wine.
Crocus and Cornelius tussle as Cornelius wants to stay behind. Crocus dunks Cornelius into the cold river to sober up! The group makes their way back to the warm hearth of Boris the Mole and gathers three large roasted mushrooms to take back to Thimblewood, according to Billâs business propositions and dealings with Boris
Preparations are made as the mushrooms are quite large, but after some careful finagling and gifting Boris some loaded dice courtesy of Cherry, the group makes it back to Thimblewood muddy, soaked through their fur, and exhausted, collapsing in the Squeaky Stein with new ingredients and food for the village!
The Month of Star. The Fourth Fair of the Fifth Week.
The group rests at the Squeaky Stein after their slog back through the winter rain with the roasted mushrooms. The group can dry their fur and plan their next course of action.
With food safely delivered to Thimblewood, the watery potato and leek soup now has roasted mushrooms as well. Horace and Mabel extend a courtesy and give free room and board to our maus heroes.
However, not all right back in the Thimblewood as the Warden Tree is still withered and once again the broom they had brought back only days ago has once again gone missing will they were away during the night of Second Fair and into the morning of Third Fair of the Fifth Week.
Horace says he followed the broom, and it eventually walked to a house that walked with chicken legs beyond in the Fallows, a field beyond Borisâs Bridge. None of the hero mice believes him until confirmed by his wife, Mabel.
Horace says that he goes to the broom from Percival the Proprietor, who is said to sell âmagikal itemsâ. The group heads over there to find a pompous and theatrical mouse with
curled whiskers and a pointy âwizardâ hat with stars. He welcomes the adventures and regales them with his wares earned in his travels as a student of the Wizard Chulip.
The group asks about a magikal house with chicken legs and the Jabberwocky, which confuses the snake-oil salesmaus, who says he actually hadnât studied under Chulip, much to the groaning and aggravation of the Adventurers.
Percival does have a map that he will sell the Adventurers for 20p to Chulupâs Castle that shows the Wizardâs Castle somewhere in the southeastern Fallows if they are interested. For Percival does say that if anyone would know what kind of magik Konrad the Maus Ritter used to defeat the Jabberwocky, it would indeed be Chulip!
Unfortunately, the group doesnât have the funds, and Cherry attempts to try and steal it from the salesmaus as Crocus tries to distract him via a game of ârochambeauâ. However, the salemaus is too fast for their tricks and closes up his wagon before the Adventurer mice can snag the hand-drawn map.
With few options, the group knows that Chulipâs Castle is somewhere deep in the Fallows, the furthest theyâll have to travel from Thimblewood. Preparations are made, and talks of torches and rations are hashed out.
Mabel donates some of her delicious moonshine to the group, much to the delight of Cornelius and the group leaves Thimblewood in search of the Wizard Chulip, looking for knowledge of what Konrad the Maus Ritterâs Sword did against the Jabberwocky.
The group leaves Thimblewood and goes into the woods, which is covered in a thick haze of campfire smoke and the sounds of woodpeckers burrowing against trees until they get to Borisâs Bridge at night to find the strange algae bloom they had seen a few days ago has blossomed into overgrown tendrils of poison ivy, especially strange for the harsh winter season! Perhaps another ill omen.
The group prepares their camp and sleeps peacefully at their usual campsite near Borisâs Bridge, the hollow of an old tree.
The Month of Star. The Fifth Fair of the Fifth Week.
Group awakens to a bitterly cold winter morning to plunge further into the Fallows in search of Chulipâs Castle!

Notes
- Scheduling and real-life stuff prevented Session #3 from happening for a month. The group is talking about finding a new day for game days.
- I used Dolmenwood mossling, woodgrue, and elf information found in the Playerâs Book for descriptions and generators for names, as Tiny Fables feels very âDolmenwood adjacentâ in tone.
- Both could be woven together, I reckon
- I valued the roasted mushrooms as a cheese wheel (200p), but given the economic circumstances of Thimblewood, I just gave them as XP rather than both pips and XP, which has led the group to do more of an âeconomy of favorsâ in the game.
- Will Implement the Events Timeline Table from Tiny Fables
- Will plan to roll on it every three sessions (Session #6)
- Started Faction Turns in earnest now
