Eight Points of Interest in Heriotza the Necropolis

The Boiled Lake

Hundreds of petrified war canoes lie upon what was once a lake. Each cut from a sandalwood tree that likely accommodates 20+ warriors. They are splayed upon a shore of glass. Each is carved with a unique figurehead. An elasmotherium, a condor with wings folded into a dive, an ebullient dog.

The Obsidian Spires

Hundreds of 70-foot-tall black glass spires, a landscape of thorns. On a wall, in several languages & scripts, are written the words in Runic Heriotza, High Montane of the Cordillera, and Free City Creole

The Street of Skeletons

A street, rubble-filled, is littered with the charred bones of d6 x 1000 skeletons, all prostrated in one direction, appearing as if running away from something.

The Herb Gatherers

The sound of singing seems oddly out of place here. Across a shallow pool, a group of men are harvesting herbs by torchlight

  1. False Onion: An onion relative with four pinkish-white hollow shoots
  2. Green Arrow: Sweet-smelling plant with arrow-shaped leaves and sour red seeds
  3. Gridelin Rose: Aquatic flower growing across bog water with a musty odor detectable at a distance
  4. Black Root: Rare vine with white flowers and knobby roots the size of a hand
  5. Toad’s Tongue: Brown liverwort with mottled skin covered in slimy mucus
  6. Fulvous Creeper: Gray-green leaves with waxy yellow fruit and pink blossoms smelling of rotting meat
  7. Tusk Root: Tall plant (2–5’) with spear-shaped leaves growing near water
  8. Bogman’s Folly: An insectivorous evergreen producing a dozen yellow lures

The men are all Ensorcelled servants of a nearby LVL 5 Blue Magus, Yda Trombell (unscrupulous, indigo robes and escoffion), whose life’s work revolves around the strange properties of Black Root

  1. Spells Known: Hold Portal, ESP, Phantasmal Physiognomy, Ensorcel Person, Spell of Somnolence, Detect Evil, Invisibility, and Bind Person

The men tell of large press-gangs kidnapping able-bodied men for a war in the East between 174-587 Valocer and 174-588 Seitejo

The herbs they are gathering “flavor the local popular variety of maize beer” in 173-587 Fatibos

The White Magus Hunfray Nauton

19 skeletons wither and draw back from the blinding light wrought by the LVL 6 White Magus Hunfray Nauton (dashingly handsome, whey–colored toga) as he funnels them into a choke point. He caught a ride from a pigeon person of 178-580 Zamosca, an Andean Condor named Crerano Zabala to 174-578 Heriotza the Necropolis

  1. Spells Known: Cure Light Wounds, Hold Portal, Saintly Sanctum, Purify Food & Water, Bless, Obnubilant Nebulation, Cure Disease, Dispel Magic
  2. Ring of Delusion as if Ring of Protection

The Giant Aegis

Peeking through the grey rubble, the glint of an impossibly large shield, wide as a bowshot, some 150’ ft. Its blazon, the Zurthine House Kvasi

A Wall of Shadows

Three human forms permanently etched in the marble stone. Nuclear shadows. Three wraiths pour out as if liquid from the flash burns

The Ruppert da Flexta Tower

The remnants of an accreted apartment building (stone frame, sign reads Ruppert da Flexta Tower, **in Runic Heriotza).
